The White House announced this week that its sweeping new tariff package will cost the average American household roughly $1,500 in 2026 — a figure our analysts have converted, at $5.89 per grande latte, to approximately 255 Starbucks lattes per family. Nationally, the $1.4 trillion projected over the next decade translates to 237 billion lattes, or enough caffeinated beverages to keep every man, woman, and child in the United States awake for the next 14 years. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent declined to confirm whether payment in lattes would be accepted. Sources close to the administration say it would not.
